Dr Shivangi Harankhedkar

MD, DM (Haematopathology) All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Fellowship (HBNI) - Molecular Haemato oncology, Tata Memorial Center, Mumbai

About

Dr Harankhedkar is a dedicated hematopathologist based in Bhubaneswar, India. She specializes in all basic and ancillary areas in hematology including bone marrow procedures and morphology, flowcytometry, and molecular techniques like PCR and next-generation sequencing (NGS). She has been trained at the best hematology centers in India, including SGPGI Lucknow (2015-2017), AIIMS New Delhi (2017-2020) and Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai (2020-2022). She currently works at IMS and SUM Hospital, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Her additional expertise includes comprehensive analysis of molecular and genomic tests including next generation sequencing, which are rapidly becoming relevant to ensure appropriate diagnosis and lie at the heart of any treatment initiation. She is dedicated to ensure the best patient care and treatment in the field of hematology. She heads the prestigious molecular diagnostics and research lab at IMS and SUM Hospital, Bhubaneswar.

Basic and advanced diagnostic tests in hematology are the foundation for correct diagnosis and further management of the patient. Diagnosis in hemato oncology often involves multimodality and integrated approach requiring correlation of multiple tests including blood counts, peripheral smear, bone marrow morphology, flowcytometry, cytogenetics and molecular techniques.

Bone Marrow Morphology

Bone marrow procedure is starting point of evaluation of many blood conditions. Being a painful procedure, appropriate sampling and thorough evaluation is of utmost value in hematology.

Flow cytometry

Immunophenotyping of cell populations involves in depth analysis and requires correlation with other details of patient. Multiparameter flowcytometry is an indispensable tool for hematological conditions.

Work up in hemato oncology is largely incomplete without molecular test results given their value in diagnosis, prognosis, predicting treatment outcomes and targeted therapies, monitoring of disease.
